This is as big as events come for the gaming world.
Microsoft is already streets behind Sony in the next-gen race in the eyes of many gamers, and that’s despite Microsoft not even having their say yet. Rumours, leaks, and conjecture have been spewing out of every hole the internet has to offer over the last few months; none of it particularly positive about Microsoft’s next-gen plans. But that can all change tonight. Come tomorrow, the “Next Xbox” might just be the most coveted console on the next-gen market.
Here’s what we think Microsoft needs to do with their event in order to patch up the bad PR and head into the summer E3/Gamescom months on an equal footing with Sony.
No ‘Always Online’ Requirement
Here is how the show should begin: the room full of media go silent as the lights go down, the surrounding stage screens go black, and the words “No ‘Always Online’ Requirement” flash up in big white letters. A Microsoft rep then walks out and just points at it, kind of like David Brent pointing at his PG Tips monkey. The rep goes on to translate the message into 30 different languages..and then the show begins.

Independent developer, Flying Wild Hog (Hard Reset), and rogue game publisher Devolver Digital (Serious Sam 3: BFE, Hotline Miami, LUFTRAUSERS), have announced their collaboration on Shadow Warrior, a complete reimagining of the 1997 3D Realms cult classic.
Shadow Warrior is a “bold new vision” of the 1997 cult classic, reimagined with a blend of modern design, inventive combat mechanics, and a contemporary retelling of Lo Wang’s comical rise to legend.
“The team here at Flying Wild Hog are longtime fans of the original Shadow Warrior with its unique combat innovations and distinct setting not seen in shooters at that time,” said Michal Szustak, Studio Head at Flying Wild Hog. “The classic arcade-style shooter is a genre we genuinely love, so redesigning the world of Shadow Warrior and the character of Lo Wang has been a fantastic project for the team.”

This one comes with a massive SPOILER ALERT, so look away now if you’re on a self-imposed media blackout for Naughty Dog’s latest blockbuster.
For those who aren’t, 45 minutes of gameplay footage has surfaced for The Last of Us, and you can watch it right here.
The Last of Us, a new post-apocalyptic IP by revered Uncharted developer Naughty Dog, is one of the most anticipated titles of the year. The gameplay footage, which was uploaded to Daily Motion by AGBLeaks, is split into two segments: a 30 minute video set in Lincoln, and 11 minutes of gameplay from Pittsburgh.
The source of the gameplay footage is unconfirmed, though common sense says it comes from somebody with early access to the game’s upcoming beta demo, which releases on May 31st exclusively for those who purchased God of War: Ascension.
The gameplay doesn’t spoil anything major story wise, but it’s still 40 minutes of gameplay you might want to avoid until the game is released. There isn’t long to wait either: The Last of Us is scheduled for release June 14th.

A triple dose of Arkham Origins goodness to start your week.
Deathstroke will be available as a playable character via DLC, Kevin Conroy is back as the voice of the Dark Knight and there’s an awesome action-packed new trailer for your viewing pleasure. Who said Mondays can’t be fun?
Released today, the trailer sets the tone for the next instalment to the Arkham franchise. Origins, a prequel to Arkham City and Arkham Asylum, takes place during Batman’s formative years, showcasing a younger and less refined Batman as he battles Gotham’s fledgling villains on a snowy Christmas eve.
The trailer introduces Deathstroke, Dead Shot, and the game’s leading antagonist, Black Mask; and they all have their sights set on Batman at the same time.
In other news, it was revealed earlier today via an Amazon listing that Deathstroke will be a playable character. The listing offers “Playable Deathstroke DLC” as one of its pre-order incentives. North American gamers pre-ordering from Amazon.com will also receive $10 of store credit.

Tuesday 21st May, 6pm. The date has a big red ring (ha!) on our T1 Calendar to denote the livestream where the new Xbox console will be debuted.
The reveal will not only show us what the new console looks like, but finally provide a name, once and for all ending the debate as to whether it’ll be the Xbox 720, Xbox Fusion, Xbox Infinity or That New Xbox Machine.
The event tomorrow evening is to be focussed solely on the console, “we have so much goodness that there’s no way we could have packed it all into one event,” interactive entertainment chief of staff Aaron Greenberg stated, as transcribed by CVG.
“The best way I can describe it is; we’re really going to tell one story across two events. So we’re going to start on the 21st of May and really that’s about revealing the next Xbox platform and our vision for the future of games, the future of entertainment. We definitely have a lot of surprises planned.”

It has been a big week of reveals for the current and next-generation of gaming alike, including some more not-so good news for the annual E3 event.
At first, we thought the announcement that Nintendo wouldn’t be taking to the stage at E3 2013 said more about the company’s troubles with the failing Wii U than anything else. But this week it has been revealed that GTA V – which it’s fair to say is one of the most anticipated games ever – will not be appearing at the expo either; nor will any of Take Two’s other IP’s.
Considering Sony chose to host their own event to unveil the PS4, and Microsoft plan on doing the same thing next week for the “Next-Box”, is this the first year we’ll see just how much relevance E3 has lost in the gaming industry? Then again, we still have to actually SEE the PS4, learn more about its plans for the Vita, and there are no doubt a shitload of other games in the pipeline. So it won’t be a total wash-out.
