E3 Reaction – Anna’s Best of Show

June 18th, 2013

thief4-2 The dust of E3 has settled on the ground, giving us time to reflect on what treasures E3 washed up on our shores.

Here, I’ve picked the 5 games that I am really looking forward to getting my hands on. Two titles that are new to me, Thief and Watch Dogs, and three old favourites: Dragon Age, Super Smash Bros and The Witcher.

By Jupiter! IO Interactive Cuts Jobs

June 18th, 2013

ws_hitman-_absolution_2560x1600 IO Interactive, the Danish studio behind the Hitman series, is set to cut around half of it’s staff in a fresh series of job cuts that could mean a large delay in the next Hitman game.

After the latest in the series, Hitman Absolution, was something of a commercial flop, some cutbacks have had to be made to keep the studio going.

IO Interactive currently employs over 200 people, and will seek to offer outplacement opportunities for the staff it lets go. Additionally, the former production director Hannes Seifert has been named as the new head of studio, as he aims to take the studio in a new direction to cope with a new and “challenging” market.

The company has said that the next entry in the Hitman series, currently still in pre-production, will continue to be developed, but other projects that they are working on will be cancelled.

Mars War Logs Rewrites the Story (in English)!

June 18th, 2013

mars_war_logs-21 Spiders Studio have announced that the dialog of their new RPG, Mars: War Logs, has been given a overhaul, making the English version that was plagued with poor grammar a much better experience.

Mars War Logs was released in late April and most players who bought the Spiders Studio title liked the game itself, but were disappointed with the narrative element because the English version strayed too far from the original French. The general feeling was that the translation didn’t stick closely enough to the original French story and dialog.

Xbox One Blunders: Is the Future of Xbox in Jeopardy?

June 17th, 2013

1371234169 After last week’s E3 event, one may argue that Microsoft has caused a grievous amount of damage to their entire games operation.

Indeed, Amazon sales show that the PS4 has earned a vast number of pre-orders in comparison to the Xbox One, which has moved from third to fifth place in the retailer’s bestsellers.

Adding insult to injury, in a recent verdict from Interactive Entertainment research firm DFC, David Cole has stated how: ‘Right now the entire future of Microsoft’s consumer entertainment business is in question and that is likely to have a major impact on the game industry.” This conclusion has derived from Microsoft’s plans for the Xbox one, that of which DFC have described as “deeply flawed”. With their plans to make the Xbox One entirely online alongside the heavy DRM limitations, it is evident that consumers are now much more likely to purchase the PS4, subsequently implementing the sales of the Xbox One in a devastating way.

“Erotic Adventure” for Oculus Rift & Surgeon Simulator Soon to Support Oculus Rift and the Razer Hydra

June 17th, 2013

3-1 In a surprising and somewhat disturbing (well…for some) announcement, veteran game designers who have worked on the likes of the Call of Duty series, Lost Planet, Rage and Planetside 2 are bringing the future of gaming technology into our homes.

Have you ever predicted that one day we will be able to live inside our own adventures, experiencing them directly through our own eyes as if it were real? How about an erotic adventure? Bow chicka wow wow…

Because that’s exactly what the Oculus Rift sets to create, in a game called Wicked Paradise. Stimulating sexual encounters, the game aims to “locate you in the centre of the action, the ecstatic epicentre of play,” based on the principle that “instead of watching an erotic movie or reading an erotic book in which the main character has exciting sexual adventures, you become that character!”
