DrunkenGamer’s Journey Begins

Monday, May 31st, 2010

deputywillem So with DrunkenGamer created there was only one thing left to do, Introduce him to the locals and get to work.

Being Human this meant the folks in and around Northshire abbey. The first person I bump into is poor old Deputy Willem, his primary duty seems to be to see that everyone knowns that Marshall McBride was the guy that you really needed to talk too. After meeting the Marshall,  I learn that apparently the area has a rather nasty Kobol infestation. The mine in particular has had to be shut down because it was overrun by the little candle loving buggers.

On my way to the mine I have a quick chat with a local merchant called Eagan Peltskinner who wants me to help cull the local wolf population, in return he offers me a new pair of boots. Now the wolves have not bothered me really, but an upgrade is an upgrade and as a result the wolves must be killed.

After a small massacre I manage to pick myself up a few minor upgrades, a cloak, some new bracers & obviously the new boots Eagan had promised me.

Of all these items the one that pleases me the most is the cloak. Its a personal thing with fantasy games that I play, but there is always one item that I must have before it feels like the character is actually out of its creation phase. In Warcraft its the cloak, I don’t know why, but that’s just the way it is.

Lead the meerkats Lead the Meerkats is one of the first ever games to be based on the often hilarious trials and tribulations of daily meerkat life, surrounding you with fun loving characters as they playfully interact with each other and try to reach a common goal.

Star Wars: The Old Republic Companions

Friday, May 28th, 2010

BioWare’s creative director and lead designer James Ohlen spills the beans on companion characters in Star Wars: The Old Republic.

Star Wars: The Old Republic Talking to IGN, James Ohlen  has let slip a few details about companions in the upcoming Star Wars game, The Old Republic. Every hero needs a sidekick, Hans Solo had Chewie, Luke had R2-D2, even Dan, our editor, is forever stroking his own Wookie. But how do you integrate companions into the game and keep them from being just a generic tag along?

Companions will join you throughout your epic journey for a variety of different reasons, greed is bound to play a part in some of the characters’ motivations, while some will just fancy an adventure. Inter-stellar travel and exploration just because you “fancy an adventure”, sounds good to me! Others will have a little ambiguity about them, their motives will unfold as you spend more time with them. (more…)

Project Tri-Force Lancer Package Shots

Thursday, May 27th, 2010

Ever wanted to carve through a swam of locust with a gun-mounted, blood-splattered chainsaw to the sound of a heavy metal soundtrack? We have.

GoW Lancer

From the guys over at Project TriForce, comes the official size Gears of War 2 Lancer. A full scale replica with blood-spatter and everything! The only thing that could improve the epic-ness (no pun intended) of the thing would be a fully functioning chainsaw and live rounds, unfortunately, health and safety wouldn’t allow it?!
At a meter in length and weighing in at a solid 7kg, the lancer is, no doubt, a little lighter than the in-game equivalent, but then we can’t all be built like Marcus Fenix. (more…)

Ico Due a HD Remake?

Wednesday, May 26th, 2010

Rumours of the cult classics ICO and Shadow of Colossus are circulating the internet and we couldn’t be more excited!

Ico

While it’s only a rumour so far, The Sixth Axis reports that the HD release, going under the name of “The Team Ico Bundle will be released Q1 2011. If this turns out to be true expect to see the T1 team celebrating at the local!

The original release of Ico for PS2 was a little underwhelming and flew under many peoples radar despite being a thoroughly brilliant game. At the time, it was mis-understood, but as recognition grew, the second hand market flourished with the original game still demanding a good price on auction sites.

This appears to be a developing trend with the Sony console with both God of War and God of War II undergoing similar treatment. If their re-release is anything to go by, we can expect a visual treat to accompany the amazing gameplay offered by both titles. (more…)

Gioteck Micro Media Remote for the Ps3 (Review)

Wednesday, May 26th, 2010

There’s not really much that can be said about a remote control, especially one that’s so basic, stylish and works so bloody well.

giotek-mx Giotek’s Micro Media Remote for the PS3 is pretty much perfect. If you’re the type who simply wants a cool looking remote control to replace the need for a pad while playing media from the PS3, rather than a universal remote capable of simultaneously tuning your stereo, TV, Sky box and ass-scratching robot, this is an astute purchase.

The Giotek remote doesn’t claim to have more bells and whistles than a remote really needs, nor does it pretend too. Instead, it packs a glossy design that perfectly matches the Playstation 3’s looks – more so the original than the new, uglier (well, in our opinion anyway) slimline version – and is so easy to use that your grandma could have it functioning for you while you take your obligatory pre-movie leak.

Ask The Game: Fallen Earth Q&A

Tuesday, May 25th, 2010

Back in the early days of Thirteen1, we tried to start a feature known as ‘Ask the Game’. The concept was simple: we arranged a Q&A for a game, but the developers had to agree to allow the readers to set the questions.

fallenearth2We successfully organised several of these, but after a while they started to become less frequent (We’re not sure whether the users started to scare the developers, or that the developers had simply become too busy to allow time for them.)
You’ll notice that we have revived the feature, with varying levels of success, in recent issues of the magazine.

However, its true home is here, in public, on the site. So it gives me great pleasure to announce it’s homecoming with our first ‘Ask the Game’ of our new site.

Our first victims/volunteers are the ever helpful guys at Icarus Studios, creators of the post-apocalyptic MMO, Fallen Earth.

Fallen Earth is set in the year 2156, when a series of global disasters has befallen the earth. The only remaining habitable area of the planet is the Grand Canyon Province. Here, the human race struggles on, trying to rebuild society in one way or another. You enter the game as a clone, to find your place in the wasteland amongst the various factions that fight for control of the area. (more…)
