So when we decided to redo the site, we agreed that we would all do regular personal blog’s as part of the regular content. When I sat back and thought about what I was going to do for mine, I thought I would revive an old habit of mine – Playing games with self-imposed restrictions.
By this I mean things like playing Final Fantasy without using shops or Command & Conquer without using any vehicle units. One I started a while ago, but had to put on hold due to time, was trying to see how far through World of Warcraft I could get without using any items of more than Common (White) rarity.
This challenge will be known as DrunkenGamer the Commoner.
What makes this a challenge is that most spells and abilities in WoW are very stat dependant and ‘Common’ gear has none at all. The world is also designed around you having a certain level of stat’s by certain stages of the game, even if that is only the minimum provided by quest reward items.
The first thing I had to decide before I could even begin was which class to play. After giving the choice some thought and also talking it over with a few of my the members of my old WoW guild, the natural conclusion was that it would have to be either a hunter or a warlock.
We worked on the assumption that, despite my weakened state, the pets those classes have access to would still be able to do some decent damage. I needed a reason that allowed me to choose between the two classes, that reason turned out to be mounts.
Now all the mounts in the game are well above common level it the game, so I had decide whether to make them an exception to the rules. Now I may have to at some point but not before I have even started. This left me with the obvious choice of Warlock as their mounts actually come in the form of spells, making them fall within the rules.
So with that I was left with only one choice, Gnome or Human…Sorry not a choice it had to be human, I’d rather play as the Kobol with a candle on my head than a gnome. Nothing as such against gnomes, but after experiencing Gnomeregan I kinda wish they had all been wiped out during its fall.
However with that DrunkenGamer was created.
I’ll be back soon with the first few levels of DrunkenGamer the Commoner’s journey.
Good luck, you commoner.
World Of Warcraft in simply whites…
Such a pro ideal.
Maybe but a chopper mount with all the gold from vendoring quest rewards?
Quite suprised you didn’t consider Paladin class tbh, charger mount?
