Thirteen1 May Issue Out Now!

Thursday, May 13th, 2010

This month’s issue of Thirteen1 gaming magazine is absolutely packed with top quality features!

issue26 Our DrunkenGamer has been on a gaming binge of epic proportions this month, starting with a tour of “Chapter III – The Elder Kingdoms“, the upcoming expansion for Frogster’s free-to-play MMO Runes of Magic, and culminating in a massive 8-page interview with Blizzard legend Tom Chilton!
The lovable inebriate even found time to traverse the desolate wastelands of Fallen Earth, courtesy of a tour with the game’s senior designer, but not before hacking his way through Rising Star’s top Wii slasher, No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle..
As if that wasn’t enough, he also managed to takeover his own version of browser-based mafia MMO, Omerta. Aptly dubbed the “Deathmatch” version, the DrunkenGamer will be using his MMO knowledge to spruce it up with his own ideas of how a game should work.
Our prediction – Omerta is about to see a whole lot of violence…

April saw the guys at Exor Studios release the brand new “Slaughter Mode” DLC for Zombie Driver, their bargain priced indie hit. Anyone who adds 50% more content to a game for free deserves some loving, so we got behind the wheel of the undead-basher again to see how the game has improved since launch.
If the sight of zombie limbs flying everywhere isn’t your thing, we suggest you check out the colourful universe of Allods Online, gPotato’s ’space-opera’ MMORPG, which finally gets it’s formal T1 review. Alternatively, if you’re after something a little more artsy-fartsy (we’re all about class), we definitely recommend you look into unique, hand-painted point-and-clicker, The Whispered World..

Runes of Magic: The Elder Kingdoms Reader Q&A

Tuesday, May 11th, 2010

Excited about “Chapter III – The Elder Kingdoms”, the upcoming expansion to top free-to-play MMORPG, Runes of Magic? So are we!
That’s why, in Issue 24 of Thirteen1, we offered you the opportunity to send your own questions to the guys at Frogster.

We planned on putting the answers in Issue 25, but Frogster were so busy working on the game that they couldn’t get them back to us in time. Lucky we have this fancy new website, eh.

Thomas Elz, Senior Product Manager at Frogster, eventually managed to find time in his busy schedule to tend to your questions, so here they are – the answers to the questions that you wanted to ask. Enjoy!

thomas-elzChapter 3 will add new zones, but will any changes be made to the Chapter 1 & 2 zones to help progress the overall world story?

After the fall of the Demon Lord at the end of Chapter II, “Runes of Magic – The Elder Kingdoms” opens a completely new chapter. The expansion will take you to the whole new continent of “Zandorya”, where the old kingdom Dalanis lies in chaos. Conspirators are scheming behind the throne of the young king Callaway, and it is up to the you to help the king restore order to his kingdom.

You can expect vast new regions, new guild features – such as guild drill grounds and new guild quests, an updated skill system, an expanded monster card system, several new dungeons and an increase in the level cap (to 60). With the main release of Chapter III in May, we will implement 9 different types of siege weapons for the guild wars between guild castles.

Champions Online Q&A

Monday, May 10th, 2010

It’s been a while since we last checked in with the guys over at Champions Online, and it looks like a lot of interesting things have happened while we were busy elsewhere.

If you ask us, it’s a perfect excuse to have a catch up chat with the game’s new Executive Producer – Shannon Posniewski.

Shannon PosniewskiHow are things going with the game, now that the dust of launch has well and truly settled?

Launch went well, though you might remember us having a rocky time in February when we made a big game update. Now things are running great. A huge content update, “Revelation”, launched a few weeks ago and went very smoothly. We are now in a pretty good rhythm, fixing bugs, adding features, and creating content.

You’re now at the helm of Champions Online. How has the changeover, from Bill Roper to yourself, affected the project?

The biggest change is due to where we are in the lifecycle of Champions. We’ve launched and made a big content update. Now we’re focusing on systems that our players feel need to be improved. For example, it was hard to team up and keep teamed up, so we’re updating a variety of things on that front. I’m also trying to get into a steady cadence of updates for Champs. Every month-to-six-weeks, we plan on having an update. Every other update will be quality of life and system updates. The other updates will be Adventure Packs.

Thirteen1 Website Launch!

Thursday, May 6th, 2010

danThe year(s) ahead…

It’s all well and good celebrating a couple of years of existence, as we have a little too rigorously since the launch of the latest issue, but we’re too greedy to have it all stop there. T1 is the type of publication that demands forward-thinking, improvements to the design, a pro-active approach, an idea that’s ‘edgy’, an [insert generic management term here..we recommend you use the word 'pop'].
You get the picture.

There’s plenty to look forward to in the world of Thirteen1, thanks to this result of busy behind-the-scenes efforts by hard working developers, designers and volunteers a-like. We’re talking, of course, about our newfangled website. It’s a better format for covering games on a daily basis, has everything we need to deliver the best gaming news alongside the magazine, and basically comes with more bells and whistles attached than that smug kid’s bike you always wanted.
