Voice acting can make or break a game, this becomes even more true in the case of games based on known licences. This is amplified even further when you’re doing a game based on a licence as well-defined as the DC comics.
Yesterday Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) officially announced some of the people who will be voicing some of the best know characters in comic history for their upcoming DC Universe Online.
After seeing the list I have only one thing to say to the guys as SOE….Guy’s, I think you have just given all the comic-book geek’s (myself included) around the world a simultaneous nerdgasm.
Headlining the list of voices are the legendary Mark Hamill & Kevin Conroy, who will both be reprising their roles as the voices of The Joker & Batman . Both of these actors have helped define the voice of those character so well in the past, in both animation and gaming, particularly in Batman: Arkham Asylum.
But the Geeky Greatness does not end there. Be sure to read the rest of the list after the jump.
Taking the role of Superman is Adam Baldwin, who is probably best known for his role as Jayne Cobb from the series Firefly, but has also appeared in TV series’ Stargate SG1, Angel & most recently Chuck.
Joining him is Firefly co-star Gina Torres who played Zoe Washburn in the show. She will be swinging the golden lasso of Wonder Woman in DCU. She has also appeared in other geek classics, such as Zena Warrior princess & The Matrix Revolutions & Reloaded.
Next with have everyone’s favourite bald villain Lex Luthor, who will be voiced by none other than James Masters. From Buffy to Battlestar Galactica, Smallville to Torchwood and even taking the role of Lord Piccolo in the Dragonball movie (though we wont hold that against him). The Geek is strong with this one!
Finishing off the list this time is Michelle Forbes, who will be voicing Circe a major adversary of Wonder Woman. Most recently you will have seen her in the series True Blood, but she has also been in Prison Break, Battlestar Galactica & Star Trek: The Next Generation.
While researching her a little for this write-up, I also discovered that she has also done some video game voice acting before, playing Dr. Judith Mossman in the Half Life 2 game (and episodes) & Captain Gail Revas in The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena.
This is where the press release stopped unfortunately.
This means there is still a whole pile of characters that are known to appear in DC Universe Online, that have yet to have their voice actors announced. I can’t wait to find out who else will be selected as if this first announcement is anything to go by, I am sure I will not be disappointed.
But if you are open to suggestions SOE, I think Sir Patrick Stuart would make a damn fine voice of Jor-El.
Coming Soon to an XBLA Near You! Past Weeks …
This is actually looking better and better. I wasn’t paying it much attention, especially after playing that flop of a game Champions Online, but every new bit of info on DCO seems to be pretty darn good. Finally a decent Super Hero game?!
