Review – Battlestar Galactica Online

Thursday, April 21st, 2011

Reviewed by Cody Hargreaves from MMO Traffic

bgo_logo1 “Experience the entire universe of Battlestar Galactica and live out the epic, action-packed war between the Colonial Humans and the ruthless Cylons”

I’ve never cared much for Battlestar Galactica. It felt like more of a Star Trek/Babylon 5 thing to me, and I’ve always considered myself to be more on the Star Wars/Firefly side of the fence with all the other ‘nerd, but not too nerd’ nerds, choosing to spend my weekends on more productive things like smoking behind the bike shed and flirting with that girl in my World of Warcraft guild ‘on vent’.

Of course, that was until they turned it into a game, and said game attracted more than a million players in its first 6 weeks of beta. That’s when it started to pique my interest; that’s when I learned that it was Free-to-Play. I had to give it a shot.

Bloodline Champions – Easter Patch

Thursday, April 21st, 2011

crm_shop_eggniter Make sure you login to Bloodline Champions and celebrate Easter with Funcom, you’ll receive a free Easter themed outfit.

If you were too intimidated by the quite sinister appearance of the Igniter, don’t worry! Funcom have got this covered, all you need to do is login to Bloodline Champions over the Easter period, and you can claim your free outfit and play as an Egg… Yes! That’s right an Egg, the ‘Eggniter’ outfit is free to everyone that logs in from the 20th – 25th.

After being beaten on by a Christmas Tree thorn Funcom really outdid themselves with this one, I don’t think there’s anything more comical than throwing fireballs across the arena as an Egg.

jagex Jagex are honoured by the prestigious Queen’s award for Innovation.

If I were to go ahead and mention the name Jagex, I’m pretty sure that the majority of you readers would have heard of them (most notably for their browser title RuneScape), if not you must have been living under a rock for the past decade, or perhaps you just haven’t explored past the realms of your ISP’s homepage.

Nevertheless; Jagex Games Studio are the UK’s largest (and probably most well known) independent games studio, and have proudly announced the receipt of a much celebrated Queen’s Award for Enterprise: Innovation.

Latest Rumour – Rockstar Working On Wii 2

Tuesday, April 19th, 2011

nintendo-wii Rockstar is one of the many major publishers secretly working on Wii 2 titles, claims the latest rumour report from French site 01.net.

According to the site, which last week released supposed tech specs and further controller details for the new console, Nintendo’s specifically targeted Rockstar as part of its campaign to ‘win back’ the hardcore audience.

If true, the move could be a huge win for the platform holder, as – presuming rumours Wii 2 will be more powerful than PS3 and 360 are true – it could have the best looking version of GTA V on its console.

The French site previously released Sony’s NGP specs long before the official announcement.

FortressCraft Storms The Xbox Live Arcade

Monday, April 18th, 2011

003 ProjectorGames, the respected UK independent games developer, is pleased to announce the massive success of its open world sandbox title, FortressCraft: Chapter 1.

I think the success of this game is most likely due to the fact that it looks exactly like fan favourite Minecraft, just on the Xbox. I can’t imagine that Minecraft creator; Markus Persson would be best pleased about this.

Released around the world on April 8th, the game is now the fastest selling Xbox Live Indie Game of all time, with a massive 16,000 copies sold on launch day. Over its first 5 days on sale, FortressCraft generated more revenue than the current biggest success on the Indie Games service, “I MAED A GAM3 W1TH Z0MBIES 1N IT!!!1″, made in the past 12 months.
