It has been hiding in the shadows for years, watching our every move like the stealthy bastard it is. But earlier today, rumours began circulating that “Thief” (stylised “Thi4f”), Square Enix’s fourth entry to the Thief franchise, is readying for a next-gen release – rumours that were subsequently confirmed via Game Informer later today.
The non-numbered sequel is slated for a 2014 release and will be hitting PC and next-generation consoles. Earlier today, Russian social website VK.com leaked a set of screenshots for the upcoming sequel, posting them on it’s GamesManiac user feed.
Not to be outdone on their own reveal, GameInformer quickly moved to confirm that Thief is indeed the star of their April front cover, revealing that “Series hero Garrett returns to the Gothic, industrial metropolis known simply as the City to steal any and everything that will make him richer.”
“Unfortunately, the City is broiling with social tension as it is ravaged by a plague and lorded over by a political tyrant known as the Baron. In order to survive his adventures, Garrett will have to pay attention to his environment and make use of the may possible paths through each of the game’s levels.”
