Blizzard Affair with Consoles Still Possible for Diablo III

Wednesday, November 23rd, 2011

diablo-3-announcement1 It has been an on-again, off-again relationship for Blizzard and consoles over the past couple decades. With offerings on the N64 in StarCraft 64 and Warcraft II on the Saturn and PlayStation, Blizzard is once again working on a possible offering for the current generation with Diablo III.

As of right now, the highly anticipated game is definitely coming out for PC, but the developer maintains that they are hard at work on coming up with something specifically designed for consoles, not some shoddy port.

“There’s a key difference,” said Blizzard lead designer Jay Wilson to Game Informer. “Certainly, a lot of things get brought over, but a port is trying to take a PC game and graft it onto a console. Our goal is to make a game that feels like it’s natively made for a console. If we make it, we want it to feel like a Blizzard game and that we built it for that platform from the ground up.”

Diablo III Possible 2011 Release?

Thursday, April 28th, 2011

diablo-3-announcement1 Speculation’s growing that Blizzard’s long, long coming Diablo three-quel could make it out in 2011, as the developer reveals it’s “in the home stretch” of development.

Speaking to the New York Times this week, Diablo III’s game director Jay Wilson said: “We’re definitely in the home stretch. We’re crunching. This is when the magic happens.”

Activision Blizzard went on record not too long ago that it’s not ready to announce a release date for the PC RPG because it doesn’t want to “disappoint” eager fans, or commit to a date and be forced to sacrifice on the game’s quality to hit it.

That “we would never do,” the publisher said in an investor call earlier this year.

Diablo III On Console?

Tuesday, March 15th, 2011

diablo-3-announcement1 Developer tells MCV that “if ever there was a Blizzard franchise that could work on console, this is it”

Blizzard could potentially release its next next super-hit on console as well as PC, the firm has told MCV.

CEO Mike Morhaime said the firm has been conducting ongoing exploration into the viability of Diablo on console.

The third game in the franchise was announced in 2008 but was only confirmed for PC. Speculation has been rife since that it will also be released for 360 and PS3.

The ‘Diablo on console’ rumour had new life breathed into it last month when Blizzard posted an ad its website, looking for a senior producer with top level console experience.

Morhaime told MCV: “We are looking for a couple of console developers, yes. At this stage though, it’s basically an investigation to see if it makes sense for Diablo to be a console game as well as a PC game.

“We haven’t made any decisions yet, but a lot us feel that if ever there was a Blizzard franchise that could play well as a console game, then that’s probably it.”
