Insists IP remains “an important franchise” for the publisher, though it has “nothing to announce” concerning possible sequel
Following claims earlier in the week that we’d seen the last of the Mirror’s Edge series, publisher EA has seemingly offered some hope to fans of the game.
On Monday it was reported that DICE boss Patrick Sodurland had claimed sales of Mirror’s Edge “were not as good as expected” and that work on the sequel had “stalled”.
However, in a statement released to 1UP an EA rep claimed that “Mirror’s Edge is an important franchise” to the publisher, though it had “nothing further to announce” about news of a possible sequel for the time being.
DICE is, for the time being it said, concentrating its effort on Battlefield 3.
In an interview translated from Swedish games site Vicachu, DICE boss Patrick Soderlund previously stated that sales of the first game “were not as good as expected”.
Furthermore, development on a sequel had actually started, with a prototype having been shown off behind closed doors.
Soderlund added that the IP is “close to his heart” but that his love for it does not in itself warrant the development of a game that, in his words, would be for the sake of “charity”.
