Documentary On MMO Gaming Hits HULU, Ranking #1

Tuesday, March 8th, 2011

gamers Director Ben Gonyo’s light-hearted documentary film Gamers has found a home on HULU and is making a splash in more ways than one. The film was ranked at the top of HULU’s documentary channel the entire first week.

Gamers has been applauded for Gonyo’s funny, charismatic on screen performance, the abundance of MMO game scene information and the wide range of subjects it covers. It has also been criticized by hardcore gamers who complain that Gonyo is not one of them, has placed too much emphasis on WOW and has, “only interviewed nerdy gamers.”

Of the launch Gonyo said, “HULU has been great. So many people are seeing the film I’ve worked a long time to make. Most of the response has been positive but I understand the critics, you can’t please everyone.

Everything is honest and I stand by the film 100%. Most gamers have a good sense of humor and I enjoyed spending time with them.”

The film, which is slated to have an Autumn 2011 release is the first to attempt to bring this fascinating story together and will feature interviews with virtually every main player in video game development, publishing and journalism over the last 40 years.

Producer, Anthony Caulfield said “From Bedrooms to Billions will tell the remarkable and true story of how the creativity and vision of only a small number of individuals from around the world pioneered in shaping the video games industry, which today is a billion dollar business. What’s so fascinating is how what was originally nothing more than a scientific curiosity snowballed into the industry we have today. As we started putting this film together we uncovered so many incredible stories, these people had to literally make up an industry as they went, some were very successful, but others were not so, however collectively we felt it a strong story that’s long overdue and should make a wonderful movie” (more…)
