DC Universe Online went free-to-play earlier this month, besting a villain even DC’s Justice League couldn’t defeat: low subscription numbers.
Since the change though, DCUO’s numbers have been rising at a rate of 6 percent per day, according to Sony Online Entertainment president John Smedley. Smedley took to Twitter to share the good news.
“DCUO’s playerbase is growing at 6% a day…” he tweeted. “700% increase in daily revenue (47% PC / 53% PS3).”

Gala Networks Europe, one of the leading free-to-play games publishers, was delighted to announce that the New Origin expansion for Dragonica went live yesterday.
As the biggest content update to date for the popular action MMORPG, New Origin brings mounts, a new race, new dungeons, a fellowship party system, a level cap raise to 80 and user interface updates, among others, to Dragonica’s already expansive game world.

Trion Worlds, the leading premium online game developer and publisher, has revealed today that its massive online real time strategy game, End of Nations, will be a free-to-play game.
The free-to-play model for End of Nations underscores Trion’s commitment to its players to match premium games with their optimal business model.

Five titles kick off a new avenue for Valve’s digital retail arm, with a promotion offering exclusive content.
The first wave of free-to-play games have now gone live on Steam.
Valve announced it is now offering support for such titles, including use of Steam’s micro-transaction backend system to handle in-game transactions. The system is already available to Steamworks partners and currently used in titles such as Team Fortress 2.
The first five free-to-play titles to be made available are Champions Online: Free For All, Forsaken Worlds, Global Agenda: Free Agent, Spiral Knights and Alliance of Valiant Arms. (more…)

This new first person shooter project will be unveiled next week at E3 behind closed doors
Perfect World Entertainment Inc., a wholly owned US subsidiary of Perfect World Co., Ltd. (NASDAQ: PWRD), announced today its partnership with Zombie Studios to publish its next-generation, adrenaline-pumping first person shooter (FPS) Blacklight Retribution.
A sequel to Zombie Studio’s Tango Down, Blacklight Retribution will be shown for the first time at this year’s E3 (June 7 – 9) in the West Hall, Booth #5322 for a behind-closed doors first hands-on to select media.
