Review – Mythos

Monday, May 16th, 2011

Mythos It’s hard to start any review of Mythos without at least briefly touching on its development story.

Created back in 2006 by Flagship Studios, Mythos was actually little more than a network testing tool for their other project at the time, HellGate: London.

When they saw Mythos had the potential to become a game in its own right, a team was created to make it happen.

However, shortly after the game reached an open-beta stage, Flagship had to close its doors, meaning ownership of the IP was handed over to Hanbitsoft.

Now, after partnering with top online publishers Frogster, the game is finally finished. Having recently come out of beta, its time to give the game a review and find out if Mythos was worth the long-ass wait.

Mythos is free-to-play MMO set in the world of Uld, where a bunch of once peaceful races are now at war. An alliance based on cooperation was held between the Humans, Gremlins, Satyr & Cyclops, but as always, all it takes is one greedy person to destroy it for everyone. A Human mercenary decided to steal an ancient Cyclops artefact, causing the entire world to lose the plot; normally peaceful animals became feral, attacking anything and everything that moves. This is where you enter the world.

Patchwork! Just In Time For Easter

Thursday, April 21st, 2011

mythos_amaray_packshot3d_en Comprehensive Update to Open Beta Brings Raft of New Features

Just in time for the long Easter weekend, the latest feature packed patch for Mythos has arrived. With only a few days of the open beta left before the game is released next week, the update includes many new features for players to get egg-cited about!

Besides a comprehensive localisation update and revised guild features the level cap was also increased from 27 to 50 which means that for the first time players can now enter the third region, ‘Umbral Peaks’ and face the many new quests and challenges the snowy region introduces.

No, that shriek you hear in the distance is not the gleeful sound of children discovering hidden eggs, it’s the sound of Uld’s monsters crying out in fear as they realize the odds just got tipped in players’ favour!

With the newly refined guild features, dungeons are now better designed for team play meaning that maybe, just maybe, you might emerge from the darkness victorious. But that’s not all, the guild member list and rights system have been completely revised along with a raft of new features including a guild message board, safe, rankings and the possibility to acquire buffs for the whole team.

Monday, October 18th, 2010

bbo_screenshot_atlantis_polar_fight We`ve been at sea fer moons now, most o’ th’ crew be havin’ scurvy, th’ water ran ou’ moons ago, at least we still be havin’ bee….Bilge water be ou’ grog..Set sail fer th’ nearest port!! Bounty Bay be closest!

For our readers not familiar with Pirate speak, roughly translated that means it has been a few months since we last took a look at Frogsters Pirate based MMO, Bounty Bay, and with the launch of its latest expansion, Atlantis, what better time to check in with them than now.

With that in mind, I decided to take a look at what players can expect to find in this anticipated expansion.

Level Cap Increases
An MMO expansion staple, Atlantis will push the level cap on Bounty Bay Online from 120 to 150. This will allow the players that had reached the level cap a new opportunity to expand their characters.

New areas to Explore
One of the good things about being out at sea is the opportunity to discover new lands to explore and plunder. Atlantis adds two entire new regions for the adventurous seafarers to explore as they work towards their new level cap. (more…)

Mythos The Action-MMORPG Mythos is back.

Previous developers, Flagship Studios, steadily turned the colourful monster hunting game from an insider tip to a true crowd-pleaser prior to its unforeseen discontinuation. Its comeback is now securely on the cards with Frogster having secured the license for its publication in Europe. Mythos has been remoulded and will appear in five language versions following a free-to-play payment model according to the plans of the Berlin-based games publisher. From the popularity of Frogster’s titles and the massive following Mythos has, it’s a guaranteed success. (more…)

Runes of Magic: The Elder Kingdoms Reader Q&A

Tuesday, May 11th, 2010

Excited about “Chapter III – The Elder Kingdoms”, the upcoming expansion to top free-to-play MMORPG, Runes of Magic? So are we!
That’s why, in Issue 24 of Thirteen1, we offered you the opportunity to send your own questions to the guys at Frogster.

We planned on putting the answers in Issue 25, but Frogster were so busy working on the game that they couldn’t get them back to us in time. Lucky we have this fancy new website, eh.

Thomas Elz, Senior Product Manager at Frogster, eventually managed to find time in his busy schedule to tend to your questions, so here they are – the answers to the questions that you wanted to ask. Enjoy!

thomas-elzChapter 3 will add new zones, but will any changes be made to the Chapter 1 & 2 zones to help progress the overall world story?

After the fall of the Demon Lord at the end of Chapter II, “Runes of Magic – The Elder Kingdoms” opens a completely new chapter. The expansion will take you to the whole new continent of “Zandorya”, where the old kingdom Dalanis lies in chaos. Conspirators are scheming behind the throne of the young king Callaway, and it is up to the you to help the king restore order to his kingdom.

You can expect vast new regions, new guild features – such as guild drill grounds and new guild quests, an updated skill system, an expanded monster card system, several new dungeons and an increase in the level cap (to 60). With the main release of Chapter III in May, we will implement 9 different types of siege weapons for the guild wars between guild castles.
