Halo 4 will be the first Halo game not made by Bungie, who created the series ten years ago. Instead, the game is being created by 343 Industries.
At the event, 343’s Frank O’Connor and Kiki Wolfkill showed the above video, and shared some information about the coming game. Vague information, but information nonetheless. (more…)

Bungie has confirmed that it will be relinquishing the last elements of control it holds over the Halo franchise on March 31.

The next Xbox will ship to retailers in late October or early November of next year with six times the processing power of the Xbox 360, sources close to the project have told IGN.
Following initial reports from tech blogs Fudzilla and SemiAccurate, our sources have confirmed that mass production of the system’s GPU will indeed begin by the end of 2012 but will not, however, be based on AMD’s 7000 series Southern Islands GPU.
Instead, the processor will be derived from the 6000 series, which was introduced last year. More specifically, it will be akin to the Radeon HD 6670, which offers support for DirectX11, multidisplay output, 3D and 1080p HD output. The chip currently has a market price of upwards of $79.99. (more…)

Iconic ‘90s FPS Doom has returned to Xbox Live Arcade today after being absent for more than a year.
Bethesda has re-uploaded the game to Xbox 360’s online service, and it can be downloaded for 400 Microsoft Points (around £3.50).
Doom originally hit Xbox Live in 2006 via Activision, but developer id Software was acquired by Bethesda parent ZeniMax in 2009. Activision’s rights expired and thus the game was removed in late 2010.
But with Bethesda relaunching Doom on XBLA today, gamers can again take part in online matches, co-op gameplay and leaderboards. (more…)

Xbox 720, or whatever the 360’s successor is called, could feature a strong tablet component, according to a new report.
In a feature looking ahead to 2012, GameSpot writes:
“There are strong signs suggesting that, like with Nintendo’s Wii U, a tablet component figures heavily into the new design. That saucy Windows 8 Metro interface (now also seen on the Xbox Dashboard) just begs to be touched.”
“Speculation as to the form it will take has been rife for the past few months, with some even suggesting that the core of the new platform will be akin to a tablet PC that wirelessly connects to a base station, which in turn plugs into your TV.” (more…)

Microsoft’s second generation of Kinect hardware is so accurate that it is able to read the lips and interpret the facial emotions of users.
That’s according to details from Eurogamer , which has gone live with a host of revelations about Microsoft’s future plans.
It says that Kinect 2 will come bundled with the next Xbox console. The tech is significantly advanced compared to the current camera and is able to sense a number of details the current Kinect cannot – the direction a player is facing, the movement of their lips, expressions of anger or happiness.
It achieves this detail by removing Kinect’s major stumbling block – USB. (more…)
