World of Warcraft Subscriber Losses Calm

deathwingelemental Industry leading MMO lost 100,000 active users in most recent quarter – 700,000 less than previous period.

Activation Blizzard reported a net loss of 100,000 World of Warcraft subscribers for the three months ending December 31st, according to financial documents filed by the company.

An aggressive marketing campaign featuring Chuck Norris during the quarterly period may have acquired enough new subscribers to negate further losses to its established user base.

Three months prior to the fourth calendar quarter, Activision Blizzard revealed that the longstanding MMO had lost 800,000 subscribers – seven per cent of its total user base at the time. That followed another exodus of about 300,000 customers in the first six months of 2011.

But Blizzard appears to have decelerated the reduction, ending the quarter with 10.2 million subscribers after seven years of business. (more…)

Wicked Experiments in Fiesta Online’s New Dungeon

fiesta-online-logo “The Secret Laboratory” is now available for all players in gamigo’s fantasy MMORPG Fiesta Online.

All manner of failed experiments are wreaking havoc in the dungeon, designed for levels 100-110, and have even gone so far as to kidnap a number of children, who will need to be rescued.

Pockie Ninja Chapter 7.5 Announced for Feb 13

Naruto and Bleach inspired browser-based brawler, Pockie Ninja will be unleashing the Chapter 7.5 update on February 13th.

The update will add massive cross-server fights to the game and raise the level cap to 100.

TERA Beta Dates Released

pic-105 En Masse Entertainment announced today that North American gamers can pre-order TERA Online right now for $49.95, which will automatically gain you early access to the game’s closed-beta sessions starting later this month.

What’s more is that pre-ordering will also enable you get into the official game with a week-long head-start, allowing you explore the land and create your ideal character before the game launches on May 1st.

Chris Lee, Vice President of Publishing at En Masse Entertainment commented in the press release, saying,“By breaking away from yesterday’s repetitive combat systems, and delivering real action, TERA is going to keep players on their toes and actively engaged in the game, the days of staring at your skill bar while pounding the Tab key are over. By requiring players to actively aim, dodge, and block, TERA’s action combat introduces real skill to MMO gameplay.” (more…)

Star Wars: Old Republic Getting 1m Log-ins a Day

starwarstheoldrepublic_box_pc EA has announced that it has sold 2m copies of Star Wars: The Old Republic since its release in December, attracting 1.7m active subscribers in the process.

Unique daily log-ins for the game stand at around 1m per day with an average playtime of approximately four hours per day. EA also highlighted the fact that outside of scheduled maintenance times its servers for the game have remained operational for 99.5 per cent of the time – that’s quite an achievement for a popular MMO.

“BioWare Austin has delivered a game that millions of people are going to be playing for a very long time,” EA labels president Frank Gibeau told investors.

“We nailed the launch. Adoption and daily usage among core MMO users are trending very favourably. More people are buying the game and subscribing. More content is on the way. Going forward, we have an ambitious plan to reach the broader market, the millions of Star Wars fans all over the world. You’ll be seeing that very soon.” (more…)
