sismond_01 The Sinister Motives of Demon Sismond Revealed

‘Chapter IV – Lands of Despair’, the next chapter in the successful MMORPG Runes of Magic, lures players into a dark and menacing new world. The Land of Malevolence has been ravaged by a deadly plague that threatens to throw this new region into turmoil.

Many of the region’s inhabitants have been struck down by an unknown sickness, with their only hope of survival coming from the curative effects of a mysterious Divine Fruit being sold by a travelling merchant. But this merchant is not quite what he seems – he is in fact none other than the fearsome and devious Demon Sismond, who spread this pestilence and is slowly but surely turning the region’s people into mindless zombies.

Sismond’s first objective was to seek out the Grafu family, in particular Annelia, a young girl with a congenital heart condition. When Sismond arrived at the Grafu family castle, he found that Annelia’s condition had not improved – she was still weak with her father helpless to find a cure.

runesofmagic_thunderhoof_hills_02 Frogster’s MMO blockbuster receives the German Game Developer Award of “Best Online Game” for the second year in a row

Runes of Magic has won the German Game Developer Award in the category of Best Online Game 2010 for the second year in a row. Gamers from all corners of Germany were asked to vote for their favourite titles of 2010 in the public competition. The award was presented last night at a gala in the Lichtburg Theater in Essen, Germany.

“We are really happy that Runes of Magic has now been awarded the German Game Developer Award for the second time.”, comments Daniel Ullrich, Chief Marketing Officer and Director of Frogster Online Gaming GmbH. “It’s a particularly special honour because the Best Online Game category is decided by players. Thirteen1 June Issue Out Now!

Sunday, June 13th, 2010

The 100% free-to-read June issue of Thirteen1 gaming magazine is now available, sporting a brand new design and packed with top gaming features!

issue27 T1’s slick, new-look, which is now fully social-media integrated, boasts more interactive screenshots and videos than you can shake a stick at.

Even the DrunkenGamer has had a facelift, not that it’s prevented him from jumping around the world of games with a Guinness in one hand, pad in the other. This month sees him finally review Frogster’s latest Runes of Magic content, The Elder Kingdoms, as well as get the opportunity to go hands-on with single-player campaign for Blizzard’s hugely anticipated StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty.

Of course, it just wouldn’t be the DrunkenGamer if there wasn’t any destruction, so he got behind the wheel of Disney’s explosive arcade-racer, Split/Second, and caused yet more mayhem in his very own version of Mafia MMO, Omerta.

Everyone is understandably going World Cup crazy at the moment – and who can blame them! Thirteen1 have well and truly caught the fever this year, with a World Cup special covering both EA’s 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa, and Ubisoft’s Pure Football. Definitely one to check out if you’re still having trouble deciding on the perfect football game for your post-match parties.

Thirteen1 May Issue Out Now!

Thursday, May 13th, 2010

This month’s issue of Thirteen1 gaming magazine is absolutely packed with top quality features!

issue26 Our DrunkenGamer has been on a gaming binge of epic proportions this month, starting with a tour of “Chapter III – The Elder Kingdoms“, the upcoming expansion for Frogster’s free-to-play MMO Runes of Magic, and culminating in a massive 8-page interview with Blizzard legend Tom Chilton!
The lovable inebriate even found time to traverse the desolate wastelands of Fallen Earth, courtesy of a tour with the game’s senior designer, but not before hacking his way through Rising Star’s top Wii slasher, No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle..
As if that wasn’t enough, he also managed to takeover his own version of browser-based mafia MMO, Omerta. Aptly dubbed the “Deathmatch” version, the DrunkenGamer will be using his MMO knowledge to spruce it up with his own ideas of how a game should work.
Our prediction – Omerta is about to see a whole lot of violence…

April saw the guys at Exor Studios release the brand new “Slaughter Mode” DLC for Zombie Driver, their bargain priced indie hit. Anyone who adds 50% more content to a game for free deserves some loving, so we got behind the wheel of the undead-basher again to see how the game has improved since launch.
If the sight of zombie limbs flying everywhere isn’t your thing, we suggest you check out the colourful universe of Allods Online, gPotato’s ’space-opera’ MMORPG, which finally gets it’s formal T1 review. Alternatively, if you’re after something a little more artsy-fartsy (we’re all about class), we definitely recommend you look into unique, hand-painted point-and-clicker, The Whispered World..

Runes of Magic: The Elder Kingdoms Reader Q&A

Tuesday, May 11th, 2010

Excited about “Chapter III – The Elder Kingdoms”, the upcoming expansion to top free-to-play MMORPG, Runes of Magic? So are we!
That’s why, in Issue 24 of Thirteen1, we offered you the opportunity to send your own questions to the guys at Frogster.

We planned on putting the answers in Issue 25, but Frogster were so busy working on the game that they couldn’t get them back to us in time. Lucky we have this fancy new website, eh.

Thomas Elz, Senior Product Manager at Frogster, eventually managed to find time in his busy schedule to tend to your questions, so here they are – the answers to the questions that you wanted to ask. Enjoy!

thomas-elzChapter 3 will add new zones, but will any changes be made to the Chapter 1 & 2 zones to help progress the overall world story?

After the fall of the Demon Lord at the end of Chapter II, “Runes of Magic – The Elder Kingdoms” opens a completely new chapter. The expansion will take you to the whole new continent of “Zandorya”, where the old kingdom Dalanis lies in chaos. Conspirators are scheming behind the throne of the young king Callaway, and it is up to the you to help the king restore order to his kingdom.

You can expect vast new regions, new guild features – such as guild drill grounds and new guild quests, an updated skill system, an expanded monster card system, several new dungeons and an increase in the level cap (to 60). With the main release of Chapter III in May, we will implement 9 different types of siege weapons for the guild wars between guild castles.
