Diablo 3 Requires Constant Internet Connection

Monday, August 1st, 2011

diablo-3-announcement1 Blizzard has revealed that the long-awaited Diablo 3 will require players to be constantly connected to the internet, even after an initial authentication process has been completed.

Remember when you first heard stuff like how either Steam or StarCraft 2 require you to be online for authentication purposes? That the process to play or utilize either service offline can be a bit circuitous, but at least it’s still possible to be offline. But, Diablo 3 differs in that you must be online to play at all — not just for authentication.

Executive vice president of game design Rob Pardo notes that the wealth of improvements and features Diablo 3 brings to Battle.net necessitate the always-online requirement. Specific additions that he refers to include: (more…)

Starcraft 2: Heart of the Swarm Teaser

Tuesday, May 31st, 2011

sarahkerrigan_sc2 A short but sweet StarCraft 2: Heart of the Swarm trailer has made its way online.

The video shows Tychus Findlay, Jim Raynor and a handful of Terran marines hunting for former ally turned Zerg ‘Queen of Blades’ Sarah Kerrigan, who serves as the focus of the second campaign.

If you’re a big fan of the Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty campaign this is definitely going to get you salivating.

However, unfortunately Blizzard has said it is likely to miss a 2011 release date.

G.A.N.G Awards: Winners

Tuesday, March 8th, 2011

gang_awards The ninth annual G.A.N.G awards took place in San Francisco last week (March 3) and were as I hoped, with the Music of the Year award going to Red Dead Redemption – Yeehaw!

The musical aces of the soundtrack, Bill Elm and Woody Jackson, were also recognised, winning the Rookie(s) of the Year category – something that I considered to be well deserved.

However, Red Dead Redemption didn’t stop there, the relentless game also scooped up three more awards: Audio of the Year, Best Interactive Score, and Best Dialogue.

By no means was it an easy judge either. The Rockstar game was up against some brilliantly strong competition including Heavy Rain, which unfortunately won nothing, Halo: Reach, again nothing, and Battlefield: Bad Company 2, the other prominent winner that day (Best Sound Design, and Best Use of Multi-Channel Surround in a Game).

Perhaps unsurprisingly, August’s cover star is StarCraft II, the sequel to Blizzard’s genre-defining RTS, which has finally burst onto the scene after 12 years of agonising anticipation. But does T1’s self-confessed fan-boy think it was worth the wait? And just what did he get up to at the midnight launch event in London? You’ll find the answer to both right here in the latest issue.

The upcoming Nintendo 3DS is the talk of gaming-town right now, so Thirteen1 decided it was high time to get hands-on with the device themselves. The DrunkenGamer brings you his honest report of just how effective the handheld console is, as well as his take on some of the games you can expect to play on it. All in mind-boggling 3D!
He also got the chance to look at some of the titles shaping the Wii’s future, including Metroid Prime: Other M, Donkey Kong Country Returns, GoldenEye 007, Kirby’s Epic Yarn, and more. So much gaming goodness..and T1’s got it all covered for you.

In fact, this month’s issue of Thirteen1 is packed with reviews and previews, from Frima’s surprisingly polished PSN title, Young Thor, to a hands-on with FunCom’s latest MOBA (that’s Massive Online Battle Arena, if you didn’t know), Bloodline Champions, and a full tilt look at Youda Games fascinating casual poker game sequel, Governor of Poker II. It’s poker ‘and’ a proper game!
