Steam hackers may have encrypted credit card data but no evidence data has been compromised, Gabe Newell advises caution.
Valve’s Gabe Newell sent out a notification today warning patrons of the company’s digital digtribution service Steam that hackers may have obtained a copy of a file containing payment transaction details dated 2004-2008.
“This backup file contained user names, email addresses, encrypted billing addresses and encrypted credit card information. It did not include Steam passwords,” said Newell.
“We do not have any evidence that the encrypted credit card numbers or billing addresses have been compromised. However as I said in November it’s a good idea to watch your credit card activity and statements. And of course keeping Steam Guard on is a good idea as well.” (more…)

Users can now browse store and interact with friends through iOS and Android
Valve has opened up its new Steam app to the public after completing the beta testing period launched last Thursday.
Steam customers can now access their accounts through iOS and Android, enabling them to browse game catalogues, interact with friends and keep up to date on new items to hit the store.
Valve co-founder Gabe Newell said that app was released so the company could help meet customer demands and make the platform more accessible for users. (more…)

Tripwire Interactive are pleased to announce the release of the modding and map making tools for Red Orchestra 2, available free to everyone that owns Red Orchestra 2.
While the limited functionality preview versions of the SDK have been available to select modders for a while, this release now makes the full capabilities of the Mod SDK available to everyone. (more…)

Robot Entertainment has announced that Orcs Must Die! is now available for purchase and download on Steam for $14.99.
Today’s release is one day earlier than originally scheduled. Players who purchase the game before 8:00am PST on Wednesday, October 12th, 2011 will still receive the special pre-purchase “Knight of the Order” costume for the War Mage.
“The pre-launch buzz around Orcs Must Die! has been outstanding,” said Patrick Hudson, CEO of Robot Entertainment. “We have an opportunity to release the game a little bit early so we jumped at the chance to let players start massacring orcs a day early.” (more…)

Valve, creators of best-selling game franchises (such as Half-Life and Counter-Strike) and leading technologies (such as Steam and Source), today announced the free DLC update for its bestselling game franchise Portal 2 will be rolled out across all regions on Steam, Xbox LIVE and PSN starting October 4th.
The free DLC, titled Portal 2: Peer Review, is available to all owners of Portal 2 for download on PS3 and Xbox 360, and will be automatically downloaded via Steam on PC and Mac.

Croteam has announced today that Serious Sam 3: BFE’s release date on PC has been shifted to November 22nd.
The newest release in the icon FPS series will still be released on Steam, Get Games, Impulse and Direct2Drive in addition to retail in select territories.
“Serious Sam 3: BFE is the next evolution in our beloved franchise and the team wants to take a little extra time to make it perfect for Serious Sam fans worldwide,” said Davor Hunski, Chief Creative Guy at Croteam.
