Tenacious D to Close Blizzcon 2010

Monday, October 11th, 2010

Ok, so Blizzcon 2010 tickets sold out mere minutes after they became available, as they do every year, but this news is still interesting.

Blizzard really are starting so some serious rock credentials it seems. Last years closing ceremony was headlined by none other than the Prince of Darkness, Ozzy Osbourne. How the hell do you top that?

Well clearly you call on the legends that are Jack Black & Kyle Gass. That’s right Tenacious D will be headlining the closing ceremonies this year and are even rumoured to be performing some all new never-before-heard material.

Here’s hoping that for the hell of it the band take to the stage wearing replicas of their  in-game mention, the Tenacious Defender.

If you were not one of the lucky few that got their hands on one of the tickets to see this event live, that does not however mean you have to miss out. Blizzard are once again offering a streamed version of the whole Blizzcon event, including all the panels, Tournaments & obviously the closing ceremonies, for around £25.

Information about that can be found at http://blizzcon.rayv.com/en/default.aspx.

Thirteen1 September Issue Available Now!

Monday, September 13th, 2010

The 100% free-to-read September issue of Thirteen1 is available now, keeping your Autumn blues at bay with crazy shooters, head scratching strategy sims, previews of upcoming gems and free to enter competitions. Summer eh..who needs it! issue30

Click here and read it now!

This month sees T1 dabble in the shady lie of crime, as 2K Games’ gangster sequel Mafia II dominates the front cover. Does the series’ next-gen debut outing deserve your respect? Or should it be cast aside and left sleeping with the fishes?
The heist and gun play fun doesn’t stop there either, with Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days bursting onto the scene in a bid to right the wrongs of the original. They’re actually looking pretty good for a couple of dead men..

And if that isn’t enough run-and-gun fun for you, the frenetic action continues with a special preview of Natural Selection 2, an epic upcoming FPS from Unknown Worlds Entertainment, as well as a review of MMO-shooter Global Agenda, which was recently released in the UK and has adopted the growingly popular free-to-play model. Guns, explosions, crimes and robots…it doesn’t get much better than this! (more…)

DrunkenGamer meets the people of Elwynn Forest

Wednesday, June 16th, 2010

pitythe After helping out the residents of Northshire Abbey, it was time for me to wonder out into the wider world. It was time to head out to Elwynn Forest.

The first person I have to report to is naturally the local marshal, Marshal Dughan.  After talking to him and a few of the other locals in the area I have a few things to be getting on with it. Main thing I learn is that those damn Kobols, that I thought I had dealt with in Northshire, were actually just the tip of the iceberg.

These little buggers are everywhere in Elwynn, but the first lot I am tasked with sorting out is the bunch that have taken over The Fargodeep Mine. The locals don’t want them in there and have a whole pile of stuff they need from within the mine itself.

So given my marching order, I set out with Belyal for a bit of mindless bloodshed.

DrunkenGamer’s Journey Begins

Monday, May 31st, 2010

deputywillem So with DrunkenGamer created there was only one thing left to do, Introduce him to the locals and get to work.

Being Human this meant the folks in and around Northshire abbey. The first person I bump into is poor old Deputy Willem, his primary duty seems to be to see that everyone knowns that Marshall McBride was the guy that you really needed to talk too. After meeting the Marshall,  I learn that apparently the area has a rather nasty Kobol infestation. The mine in particular has had to be shut down because it was overrun by the little candle loving buggers.

On my way to the mine I have a quick chat with a local merchant called Eagan Peltskinner who wants me to help cull the local wolf population, in return he offers me a new pair of boots. Now the wolves have not bothered me really, but an upgrade is an upgrade and as a result the wolves must be killed.

After a small massacre I manage to pick myself up a few minor upgrades, a cloak, some new bracers & obviously the new boots Eagan had promised me.

Of all these items the one that pleases me the most is the cloak. Its a personal thing with fantasy games that I play, but there is always one item that I must have before it feels like the character is actually out of its creation phase. In Warcraft its the cloak, I don’t know why, but that’s just the way it is.

Thirteen1 May Issue Out Now!

Thursday, May 13th, 2010

This month’s issue of Thirteen1 gaming magazine is absolutely packed with top quality features!

issue26 Our DrunkenGamer has been on a gaming binge of epic proportions this month, starting with a tour of “Chapter III – The Elder Kingdoms“, the upcoming expansion for Frogster’s free-to-play MMO Runes of Magic, and culminating in a massive 8-page interview with Blizzard legend Tom Chilton!
The lovable inebriate even found time to traverse the desolate wastelands of Fallen Earth, courtesy of a tour with the game’s senior designer, but not before hacking his way through Rising Star’s top Wii slasher, No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle..
As if that wasn’t enough, he also managed to takeover his own version of browser-based mafia MMO, Omerta. Aptly dubbed the “Deathmatch” version, the DrunkenGamer will be using his MMO knowledge to spruce it up with his own ideas of how a game should work.
Our prediction – Omerta is about to see a whole lot of violence…

April saw the guys at Exor Studios release the brand new “Slaughter Mode” DLC for Zombie Driver, their bargain priced indie hit. Anyone who adds 50% more content to a game for free deserves some loving, so we got behind the wheel of the undead-basher again to see how the game has improved since launch.
If the sight of zombie limbs flying everywhere isn’t your thing, we suggest you check out the colourful universe of Allods Online, gPotato’s ’space-opera’ MMORPG, which finally gets it’s formal T1 review. Alternatively, if you’re after something a little more artsy-fartsy (we’re all about class), we definitely recommend you look into unique, hand-painted point-and-clicker, The Whispered World..
